Welcome to my Pardus Wiki

I decided to create this wiki because I seem to be one of the few English speaking American users of this amazing "hybrid source/binary" GNU/Linux distribution. I call Pardus a "hybrid" distribution because the Pardus package manager makes it incredibly easy to install binary packages but also allows you to compile and install the equivalent package from source code with a single command line.

Because I have grown to love Pardus, it has also become the distro of choice for student computers (and hopefully teacher computers) at Jordan Catholic School. I am currently contracted with Jordan Catholic School and serve as the IT Manager for both school buildings (Jordan Elementary and Jordan Middle).

I have found there to be many uses for this distribution mainly because of it's package manager called PISI. With the 2011 and Corporate 2 (Kurumsal 2) release, there has been some major enhancements (especially to the installer which now includes LVM and software RAID support) which in my opinion makes Pardus a viable contender in the Linux world when compared to distributions like Ubuntu, Fedora, openSUSE, etc.

My goal is to make Pardus usable by all (even as a server) and to help spread the word about Pardus and how powerful of a distribution it really is.

This is an unofficial wiki and it is not associated or affiliated with pardus.org.tr or TÜBİTAK/UEKAE.

Pardus 2011 LXDE, Fluxbox, XFCE, and Gnome Test Versions!

Go here to read the thread: http://worldforum.pardus-linux.nl/index.php?topic=3770.0

and go here to download: http://comak.comu.edu.tr/nisanbir/

The LXDE version is super light-weight and will run fast even on ultra low-end and obsolete hardware. I have also tried the Fluxbox version but if you don't speak Turkish then don't bother... I have not tried the XFCE or Gnome versions but what's the point? I like XFCE better than Gnome but LXDE is perfect when you don't have enough power to push KDE4.
